Tuesday, April 24, 2012

To build our summer reading lists we need your recommendations.  Please tell us the title and author of your favorite books.  Also, explain why the book is SO great!  That will help us know which books to put on our lists.  Don't forget to just use your first name and to write in complete sentences.  Don't use text language.  No one wants to decipher your code.  We just want to read and talk about some fabulous books!

    I just read The Gardner by S.A. Bodeen, I think this would be a great book for 5th or 6th graders to read, what an adventure!

    I can't wait to read Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer by John Grisham.
    I think it will be fun to see a kid work as a lawyer to solve a huge case!

    I recommend the Babymouse series, because it is humorous. It is fantasy and a lot of people like fantasy books. In one of the books, Babymouse forgets her tennis shoes and has to wear her pink socks in gym. She slips, slides, and falls!

    I recommend The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It's about 24 Tributes who fight against each other for their lives in the wilderness. There is also a love story in the book. I like it because it's very intense and emotional.

    I recommend The Rule of Three by Megan McDonald. It is about three sisters, one who loves little women and the other two are obsessed with acting. When one of the sisters wins the lead part in the school show it all comes crashing down. I liked this book because I also am an actress and I could relate to some of the events in the book.If you like girly books this is the book for you.

    I really recommend the American Chillers series by Jonathan Rands. It's creepy but not too creepy, if you can't handle too much. It would be good to read if you're going into fourth grade. Joey

    I really recommend Lunch Money by Andrew Clements because it's about a boy who's very creative and comes up with an idea to make money and sell comics. I liked it because it relates to my personality because I'm creative, too.

    I really recommend Baseball Great by Tim Green. If you like sports you will love this book. Its about a kid who has to join a high school baseball team and hes only 12. He try's to impress his teammates and then because of that he gets involved with steroids and he dose not want to call the cops because he thinks his dad might be involved. I think it would be good for a 4th grader and a 5th grader

    I recommend Wildwings by Jill Lewis. It's about a bird and it is trying to get its way to Africa and back. There's people who are watching it and they're trying to make sure nobody kills it. It's a fiction book. I like it because it because it's about saving a rare bird. I think 4th or 5th graders would like this book.

    Im reading an awesome book its called 13 gifts by Wendy Mass.I recommend this book for 4th-6th grade.Anywho its about girl named Tara (shes almost thirteen)she get caught for stealing her princpals camel.What an aventure!!!

      I just finished reading 11 Birthdays by Wendy Mass. What an interesting story! I liked how it all came back to friendship and getting along with others. I would recommend it for summer reading lists.

    I recommend Smile by Raina Telgemeier. It's personal for me because I'm going to get brackets and Raina gets brackets in it. It's a really funny book and I really enjoyed it.

    I recommend the book The Man Who Loved Clowns by June Rae Wood. This book is great because it's very touching to the heart and makes you sad at points in the story. This book would be for a 5th or 6th grader.

      I really think that that book would be a good book for me. I've heard so much about it, but I've never had the time to check it out at the school library. I'll try to get it at the Bag of Books that our school holds. Thanks for recommending it on the blog.

      I read The Man Who Loved Clowns also but I dissagree that the book can only be good for fifth and sixth graders beacause I read it at the first part of fourth grade and it seemed appropriate then too. Also if you enjoyed The Man Who Loved Clowns you might like to read Turtle on a Fence Post, it is the second book in the series and talks about Delrita later in life.

      Jonas, I'm glad you put your recommendation for The Man Who Loved Clowns on the blog. It is an amazing
      story full of humor and sadness. If you liked all the "quirky" things that Punky did, try When Pigs Fly by June Rae Wood. In this book, there is a little girl who has Down Syndrome, and she has her own quirks that make the book really interesting!

    I recommend the book Deep and Dark and Dangerous by Mary Downing Hahn. It is a very good mystery and it is a very spine tingling book. One of the main characters, Sissy has a few tricks up her sleeve. This story has a very shocking ending that will surprise many people. This book is probably for a 4th or 5th grader.

      I recommend holes by Louis sachar. It is great because it is like yu can feel the Pain that Stanley the main character goes through.

    I recommend the book Babe & Me by Dan Gutman if you like sports stories. This book is great because it's very exciting and a good adventure story about Babe Ruth.

    I recommend the book Report Card by Andrew Clemets. This book is so good because it tells how strong friendships can be, even to the point of putting yourself in a bad placement to make your friend feel good about themselves.

    I recommend ?Into the wild and Out of the wild by Sarah Beth Durst. The books are full of action and adventure.

    I highly recommend My Life as a Book because in the sidelines of the book the guy who wrote the book has little pictures with words going on along them. He's very creative in the story. It's exciting and funny. Boys would be interested in this book.

    I recommend The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes because it is about a girl who got made fun of and moved to another place and everyone was sad.I think this book is for 4th or 5th grader.

    I highly recomend PIE. Its about a girls aunt who makes the best pie ever and gives it away for free but she dosent care. After she passes the girls stuck in a stick situation of stolen property, break ins and some abduction but whos to blame? Read this awsome book to find out

    I really think Matilda by Rould Dall will be a favorite for readers of all ages! It is about a young very intelligent girl named Matilda. Her parents are not the sharpest blades of grass in the meadow. She gets in a lot of trouble with them and the principal of her mostly cruel and ugly school. The ending is breath taking, exiting, and happy. Strong, independant readers will love this ashtonishing story.

    I highly recommend the book "ATTACK OF THE MUTANT UNDERPANTS." It's a funny book about a boy whos somewhat afraid of underpants. He goes through many hillarious and exiting adventures, and the end is hillarious. Also, just so you know, the title does not describe the whole book well. I reccomend this book for readers in the middle of inndependent and easy, and boys would really like this book.

    I highly reccomend The Ultimate Dog Book, by David Taylor. If you want a dog or just even a book to read about them. Then you should read this. Grades 3-5 would have a great time with it! Hayden

    I want to recommend another book to put on your summer reading list. I just finished reading Captain Nobody by Dean Pitchford. It was a Mark Twain award nominee for this year. I know many of you in 4th, 5th and 6th grades read it, but if you are a 3rd grader going into 4th grade, you may want to read it this summer. It's about a ten year old boy named Newton who has an older brother who is the star quarterback on the high school football team. Newton's brother is injured during a football game and falls into a coma. Newton has to deal with his own lack of self-confidence while dealing with the uncertainty of his brother's condition. That's when Captain Nobody enters the scene. You will love this book!

    I recommend Jane In Bloom, it is a sad book of love and loss. This book made me cry 3 times! It talks about how a young girl gose through rough times with her family, how her parents might devorse and a terribaly sick sister. I highly recomend this book to girls. Sarah

    I just finished reading Runaway Twin by Peg Kehret. She is one of my favorite authors. This book was exciting from beginning to end. Sunny, the main character, was certainly on an adventure. This book is a little bittersweet. It shows that sometimes you may not appreciate what you already have until you lose it and sometimes what you think you want, isn't what you thought it would be. I highly recommend you read this Mark Twain nominated book.

      That is a great book! I highly recommend it as well. It's a great book to get at Bag of Books that's coming up in a few days! I know there are a couple copies so there's a good chance of getting it! It's probably good for a 4th, 5th, or 6th grader.

    I recomend Two Minute Drill by Mike Lupica. It's about a boy named Scott who is the new kid and made friends with the most popular kid in the school. He made a deal with him and it was to toudor him if he made him better at football because they were on the same team. It is a really good book! It is better for a fifth or sixth grader.

    I reccomend The Hunger Games Series it is interesting and the books leave you with suspense. I highly reccomend these books for 5th and 6th graders. Once you pick these books up you'll never want to put them down. I once stayed up untill midnight reading these books.

    I recommend the book Found by Margeret Peterson Haddix.I think you would like it if you like mysteries. This book would be good for 4th through 6th graders. I am already halfway through it and I LOVE it!

    I recommend the Pendragon Series by D.J. Machale. The series has a great mix of fantasy and awesomeness. This would be a great read for 5th and 6th graders. In the books a boy is flumed across Halla to different territories trying to defeat Saint Dane and save the territories from the disaster of their turning points.

    I recommend the Ga'Hoole series.It is great when you start reading it you will never want to stop.I recommend these books for 3rd grade and up.Ihope you read it.It is great.

    Hello all you readers out there,
    I just finished Because of Mr. Terupt (by Rob Buyea), a Mark Twain book that Mrs. McKarnin recommended to me. It's a book about a class of fifth graders; many characters tell their side of the story about all kinds of issues, including a scary accident. It really makes you think about the power of your words and how you treat others. I think it is especially powerful for those of you who just finished 5th grade! Keep on reading, friends!

    I just finished Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper. It was an amazing book! It was interesting to see how life is like for a girl who is initially unable to communicate. I believe this book is a Mark Twain nominee. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind reading a book that might be a tear jerker!

    I would reccomend the diary of nellie lee love. It is very intresting. the book has a lot of words we wouldnt use in our every day launguage. when nellie moves to chicago,illinois everything changes for her, and her family.

    I recomend the Main Street sereies by Ann M. Martim who also writes Baby sitter club books. The books are about 2 girls who have to live with their grand-ma because they got in a car accident with theire parent.They have lots of adventures living in the little town of Camedenfalls,
